I can't open QuickBooks premier 2021.  When I click on the icon on my home page I get a message that Windows can't find the file.  If I go the QBW32.EXE file and click on it I get the same message that Windows can't find the file.  Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.

Can you find QBW32Premier[xxx].exe or a similar name? Try clicking on it.

This error occurs when your QuickBooks program files are missing, corrupted, or blocked by Windows security and permissions. To fix this, run QuickBooks as an administrator to bypass the restrictions blocking your file access.

Here's how:

  1. Open the Windows Start menu.
  2. Type "QuickBooks" into the search.
  3. Right-click on the QuickBooks version and year you wish to open from the results.
  4. Select Run as administrator.
  5. Run the payroll update.
  6. Once the update is complete, close QuickBooks and open it normally (not as an administrator).

If the issue persists, you can update the Windows permissions for the QuickBooks program file:

Step 1. Locate the program file

  1. Open the Windows Start menu.
  2. Type "File Explorer" into the search and open File Explorer.
  3. Locate your QuickBooks program file (QBW32.EXE).

Step 2. Edit the security settings

  1. Right-click the QBW32.EXE file and open Properties.
  2. Navigate to the Security tab and choose Edit.
  3. Select Add and type "Everyone" in the window. Then, confirm with OK.
  4. In the Security window, select the checkbox for Full control, then select OK.
  5. Choose Add again, type "Users", and confirm with OK.
  6. Check the box for Full control, then select OK.
  7. Select Apply and finish by closing the settings window with OK.

For more detailed information, refer to this article: Fix file you specified cannot be opened.

Also, I suggest checking your computer's antivirus software to see if it blocked the Qbw32.Exe file.
