Question

Can QB allow an Agent and the client to be able to do MTD Submissions. Agent did the first, but going forward the client would like to do it but its not working for them?

Agent would like to be able to access it as well, in order to help the client. Surely both should be able to do the submissions? what do we do going forward if the client then needs to take over.

To allow the client to submit their MTD VAT return directly, disconnect the current agent connection in QuickBooks and reconnect using the client's Government Gateway credentials. Because QuickBooks holds only one active HMRC authorisation at a time, the client's submission fails while the agent's account remains connected.

Before disconnecting, please keep the following points in mind:

  • QuickBooks will temporarily stop sharing data with HMRC while disconnected.
  • Digital VAT returns cannot be submitted until the new connection is authorized.
  • You can easily reconnect at any time by reauthorizing credentials.

To disconnect the current MTD connection:

  1. Select the Gear icon at the top right, then choose Account and settings.
  2. Go to the Advanced tab from the left menu and locate Making Tax Digital.
  3. Choose Learn how to disconnect, then click Continue.
  4. Select Disconnect to confirm, then return to QuickBooks.

Once disconnected, reauthorise MTD using the client’s Government Gateway login credentials.
