Question

Does QBSE have the capability to submit reports to HMRC inline with MTD requirements, or is an upgrade to QB Online required. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Select QuickBooks versions provide integrated HMRC reporting capabilities, markstatham23.

For now, QuickBooks Self-Employed does not have the feature to directly submit reports to HMRC in line with Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements for income taxes.

Please note that this version is primarily designed for very simple self-employment income and expense tracking.

As a workaround, you can download reports. Then, use the details to file the tax return directly on the HMRC website. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. Look for Tax summary or Tax details.
  3. Click View or Download.

Check out this article for additional details about this option: Use reports to fill in your tax return in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

You'll also want to upgrade to QuickBooks Online if you need MTD for income tax compliance. This version is an HMRC-recognised software that offers the features needed to meet these requirements, including digital record-keeping, quarterly updates, and year-end submissions.
