    Hi there, Ryannick30. Yes, you must connect your QuickBooks account directly to your HMRC account to comply with Making Tax Digital (MTD). This 'digital link' allows you to submit your returns directly from QuickBooks, as HMRC no longer allows manual typing into the old VAT portal.

     

    Before you start, double-check these three things:

     

    • VAT Registration: Ensure your VAT number in QuickBooks matches exactly what HMRC has on file.
    • Scheme Eligibility: QuickBooks supports MTD for Standard, Cash, and Flat Rate schemes. If you use a non-GBP home currency or an unsupported scheme, you won't be able to use the MTD feature.
    • HMRC Credentials: Have your Government Gateway ID and password ready for the 'handshake' between the two systems.
