Question

Is it true that you cannot submit the quarterly MTD for the pilot scheme yet via Quickbooks ?

So quickbooks are only sharing their MTD platforms to practice n within QB and we are not able to submit to HMRC ? I have signed up to the pilot and was going to use qb, but it seems I cant ? Does this also mean that I wont be able to input the final quarterly return, not do my tax return on QB ? Most confused.

Hi there, Enda. Let me clarify how QuickBooks supports Making Tax Digital (MTD).

During the pilot phase, QuickBooks provides tools to track missed and upcoming deadlines, helping users stay organized and prepare their filings. As the pilot trial is intended for early exploration and testing rather than the submission of quarterly returns, direct submission capabilities are not yet available at this stage. This feature will become accessible once MTD is fully implemented in April 2026.

For now, you can input and review quarterly MTD data in QuickBooks, but submissions to His Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) must be done outside the platform until full integration is available. You can also continue to use QuickBooks to record and prepare your final quarterly return, ensuring accurate record-keeping and compliance.
