Can we delete GL which is not in use currently but was used in previous financial years for then does it affect previous year balances is we delete the GL

Yes, you can inactivate an account from your Chart of Accounts and it will affect the balances associated with it since QuickBooks will offset it. Here's how: 

1. Go to the Accounting menu and select Chart of Accounts. 
2. Look for the account to deactivate.
3. Under the Action column, click the drop-down arrow.
4. Click Make inactive and select Yes to confirm.
