To set up a split invoice in QuickBooks Online that shows a deposit paid on one date and a balance due on a future date, use the deposit field feature, since QuickBooks Online doesn't support two separate due dates on one invoice.

Before proceeding, ensure that the deposit feature is enabled. Here's how:

  1. Click on the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Select Account and settings.
  3. In the left menu, choose Sales.
  4. In the Sales form content section, click the Pencil (Edit) icon.
  5. Turn on the Deposit option and select Save.

Next, to add a deposit to an invoice, follow these instructions:

  1. Click the + Create button in the left menu and choose Invoice.
  2. Select the customer from the Customer ▼ dropdown.
  3. Set the Payment terms, Invoice date, and Due date.
  4. In the Product/service column, choose the product or service and complete the required fields.
  5. Enter the amount in the Deposit field below the Total amount.
  6. From the Deposit to ▼ drop-down list, select Undeposited funds.
  7. Choose Save and close.

After you’ve saved the invoice, create a deposit and set the payment date to the actual deposit date to keep a record of when the deposit was made.
