How do I set up consignment sales to a retail shop as a clothing brand owner?

Hello there. I'm glad to assist you in recording consignment sales in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

To begin with, let's set up consignors as suppliers and classes. Make sure that you've turned on the class tracking feature first.

Now to enter consignors as suppliers:

1. Go to Expenses then select Suppliers.
2. Click on New Supplier.
3. Use the fields in the Supplier Information dialog to enter the consignor's information.
4. Select Save.

Repeat the steps until all consignment suppliers are set up.

Next, let's set up consignors by Class:

1. Go to the Gear ⚙ icon then click on All lists.
2. Select the Classes item to open the Classes page.
3. Click on New.
4. Enter the consignor's Name in the Class dialog.
5. Hit on Save.

Repeat the steps for each of your consignors to set up reporting for your consignors.

Once the consignors are set up, you can create two accounts to help track consignment sales and payouts:

1. Go to the Gear ⚙ icon and select Chart of Accounts.
2. Click on New.
3. From the Account Type dropdown, select Income.
4. Select Sales of Product Income in the Detail Type dropdown.
5. Enter Consignment Sales in the Name field.
6. Click on Save and close.
7. To create another one, click on New.
8. Select Income in the Account Type dropdown.
9. Select Sales of Product Income in the Detail Type dropdown.
10. Enter Consignment Payouts in the Name field.
11. Select the Is sub-account checkbox and select the Consignment Sales income account you just set up.
12. Select Save and Close.

Now that we have your accounts set up, we're now ready to set up the Consignment Sales item. After which, proceed to step 3 of the same article which is recording your consignment sales and payouts.
