Aside from subscribing to the Plus or Advanced plan, you’ll need to ensure several specific settings are configured correctly to use the sales order feature. This feature is unavailable if your company has active custom fields and uses bundle types within the Products and Services list. Also, make sure pricing rules are disabled and the new invoice experience is enabled.

Custom fields and extensions must be inactive, as they can interfere with this workflow. Go to the Gear icon > Custom fields, select the field dropdown, and set any active fields to Inactive. Review your product list and remove or convert any bundle type items, since bundles are not supported.

It’s important to disable pricing rules to prevent any conflicts with the sales order process. Pricing rules can interfere with how sales orders are calculated and processed.

Here’s how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Account and settings.
  2. Locate the Sales tab and find Products and services.
  3. Click the pencil icon and turn off pricing rules.
  4. Click Save.

Ensure you’re using the new invoice experience. When creating a new invoice or estimate, enable the prompt for Try the new experience. This updated layout is required.

After these changes, click +Create and you should see the option under the Customers column. If you still see an error, log out and log back in to refresh your session.
