In QuickBooks Online (QBO), changing from CHF to USD depends on your plan and whether you have already activated the Multicurrency feature, Fer.

Please note that if you are using QBO Simple Start, the Multicurrency feature is not available, as it only supports one currency. To use multiple currencies or change exchange rates, you must use or upgrade to QBO Essentials, Plus, or Advanced.

If your plan supports it and you haven't enabled the feature yet, follow these steps to set your home currency:

  1. Navigate to the Gear icon and select Account and Settings.
  2. Go to the Advanced tab.
  3. Click the Edit icon in the Currency section.
  4. From the Home Currency dropdown, select US - United States Dollars.
  5. Turn on the Multicurrency switch.
  6. Select Save and then Done.

Once saved, your Home Currency is permanent. If you need to change it in the future, you'll have to start a new company file.

If you need to keep CHF as your main currency but simply want to pay a bill or receive a payment in USD, follow these steps to add the currency and manage the rates:

  1. Navigate to the Gear icon and select Currencies under the LISTS column.
  2. Click Add currency and select USD.
  3. Hit Add to finalize.

Once done, note that when creating a new Customer or Supplier, you must set their currency to USD, as this cannot be changed once transactions are recorded. Also, when creating a Bill or Invoice, look for the Exchange Rate field on the transaction screen. You can manually type in the exact rate provided by your bank to override the automatic rate.
