Another thing to consider is creating a custom field labeled 'Serial Number' for your purchase orders. Here's how:
Go to the Gear icon, then choose Custom Fields.
Click the Add Fields tab.
Type in the Serial Number as the Name and select its Data type.
Choose its category and to which form it will apply.
