Question

Linked account has suddenly disappeared, and its associated transactions too

Bank account not even showing as "re allow linking" , it's just gone. My transactions also are gone. Should I relink, I don't want to cause duplicates?

Hi, @marjoteWhen an account disappears but isn't showing a re-link option, it usually hasn't been deleted from the bank's end. Instead, it has likely been marked Inactive within your QuickBooks Chart of Accounts (COA).

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), transactions are tied to the account's status. If the account is made inactive, you won't see it in your active list, the Banking tile from the bank page will not show, and the transactions aren't deleted, they are just archived in a "hidden" state.

Follow these steps to restore the account:

  1. From the banking page, select the Chart of Accounts.
  2. Look for the small Gear icon (not the main one at the top, but the one right above the Action column).

  3. Check the box for Include inactive.
  4. If your bank account appears with deleted next to the name, it was deactivated. Click Make active in the Action column.

  5. Then, from the Action dropdown, choose Connect bank
Note: When you relink, you might get duplicate transactions because old data sitting in the Pending tab could be re-imported as a new source. If that happens, you can exclude the duplicates.

Please keep in mind that making an account inactive in the COA hides the transactions from reports, but it doesn't usually delete them from the register.

If you follow these steps and the account still isn't showing up, or if you're seeing a specific error code when you try to hit Make Active, let me know. I'm here to help you get those books back in balance.
