Question

Getting this QuickBooks Online error when editing quotes: "Error while calculating tax." Often have to recreate the entire quote to send it. Huge time waste.

Is anyone else experiencing this error in QuickBooks Online when editing quotes/estimates? Error message: "We're sorry, QuickBooks encountered an error while calculating tax. Try reselecting the tax rate or reentering the product/service item and saving the form again." This happens while editing existing quotes. The suggested fix rarely works, and I often end up having to recreate the entire quote from scratch just to send it to the customer. It's becoming a major issue as it's wasting a huge amount of time. Has anyone found a permanent fix or identified what causes it? I'm using QuickBooks Online in Ireland with VAT enabled. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I appreciate you highlighting the workarounds you used, especially recreating entire quotes to send them.

This error typically appears when QuickBooks cannot correctly recalculate VAT while editing existing estimates in certain VAT-enabled setups.

Since this recurring issue impacts your efficiency, I recommend contacting QuickBooks Live Support. They have the tools to investigate your company VAT behavior and resolve the underlying cause.
