Do I need to create an invoice to match the amount? It's only £14

For an unknown deposit, do not create a fake invoice. Instead, create a deposit, categorize it as Uncategorized Income, and reclassify it later once it's identified. You'd only need an invoice if the deposit is a payment from a specific customer for a known sale.

Here's how to do it:

  1. Go to +Create and choose Bank deposit under Other.
  2. Set the Account to the bank account where the deposit appeared.
  3. Under Add funds to this deposit, leave blank or put Unknown under Received From.
  4. Under Account, categorize the unknown deposit as Uncategorized Income (temporary) and enter the Amount £14.
  5. Save and match it to the transaction in the bank feed.

Alternatively, you can categorize directly from the Bank transactions page, find the £14 deposit, and click it. In the Account dropdown, select Uncategorized Income and hit the Post option. It'll be cleared from the pending list, and the reconciliation will work.

While carrying out this process, I recommend consulting with an accountant to ensure your records remain accurate. They can help determine the most appropriate permanent account for reclassifying these funds during your year-end review.

Following these steps keeps your bank balance accurate without cluttering your books with placeholder invoices. Feel free to reach out if any other mystery transactions pop up or if you need help moving those funds later on. I'm here to help you keep everything tidy. Happy bookkeeping!
