Quickbooks doesn't support date format for my banking CSV file

I am using a bank that does not link directly to QB so I need to manually upload the csv file with my bank transactions. However QB does not support the date format in my csv file which is YYYY-MM-DD. I can see QB supports this date format in other parts of the site (in its settings) but it is not listed for uploading bank transactions. I'm unable to complete the process as QB flags the date column as being in the wrong format. I am using QB online. Please help Eleanor

As I do not have Excel I have been trying to reformat the date cells in Open Office with no success. However I just tried it will Google Sheets and it worked! Such a simple problem that has been giving me so much grief. For anyone else with this problem and you don't want to pay for Excel (which automatically reformats the date simply by opening the file in Excel and re-saving) then try opening in Google Sheets and reformat the date, then download as a csv file - works a treat.

Since your bank provides YYYY-MM-DD format in the Date column, you can change it to MM-DD-YYYY or DD-MM-YYYY format in your Excel file. Let me guide you how.

 

Before we proceed, please make sure to select the correct date format that matches your QuickBooks transactions. This way, you'll not receive any error when matching your transactions.

 

Here's how to change the date format in your Excel file:

 

  1. In your MS Excel, highlight the date column.
  2. At the top of your Excel screen, click the Number Format icon.
  3. In the Number tab, select Date under Category.
  4. Choose the correct format.
  5. Click OK.

Once done, I'm confident that you'll be able to import your bank transactions in QuickBooks Online successfully.
