Recording ordinary shares held by directors in a limited company in uk

Hi can anyone tell me should I be recording ordinary shares held by directors in a public limited company registered in UK..I am confused whether I can just record these in the Chart of accounts as Ordinary Share capital or I have to go down the route of recording them as owners capital in an owners equity account?
