Question

So as a sole trader I can claim 45p a mile deduction. In the mileage tab it says potential deductions for 2025. How do I actually have it as an expense how up.

Hi there, @jcrewe1213.

In QuickBooks Sole-Trader, you can categorise this mileage potential deduction entry as an expense in the Transactions tab. Here's how:

  1. Click the New transaction in the Transactions section.
  2. Enter the Date of the entry.
  3. Make sure to select Expense.
  4. Enter the name of the person or entity you pay in the Payee section.
  5. Place the amount and select if it is for Business or Personal use.
  6. Choose a Category. You can refer to this article to categorise this expense correctly: Guide to Sole Proprietorship Taxes.
  7. Put a note of the transaction if necessary. Then, Save.
