Do you need to convert data from QB Desktop to a new QB Online US account or import to an existing one?

Welcome to the Community forum, treasurer176. Currently, QuickBooks Online does not support direct imports from .qbb files, as .qbb files are backup files specifically designed for QuickBooks Desktop.

If you're referring to converting data from QuickBooks Desktop from a .qbb file to a new QuickBooks Online account, just as mentioned to SIAB. You will first need to open or restore the file using QuickBooks Desktop. If you don’t have access to QuickBooks Desktop, you can ask the accountant who provided the .qbb file to restore it for you and assist with the next steps.

Once the .qbb file is restored in QuickBooks Desktop, you can prepare to export the company file to QuickBooks Online through a built-in conversion tool. QuickBooks Desktop has an option that allows you to migrate data directly to a QuickBooks Online account.

Here's how:

  1. Open the company file in QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Go to the Company menu and look for Export Company File to QuickBooks Online.
  3. Follow the prompts to sign in to your QuickBooks Online Advanced account and complete the migration.
