Data (.qbb files) are on a drive from an older (2009) version of QB. Does anyone have experience importing these into the online version?

Can you use Online Tool to convert your data to QB Online?

Otherwise, you can upgrade your data by using the trial version of QB Desktop 2024 Enterprise to QB Online.

Hello weskare,

Thank you for reaching out to the QuickBooks Community.

QuickBooks back up file (.qbb) from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) cannot be directly imported into QuickBooks Online (QBO). To transfer  your data, you'll need to first restore the .qbb file in QBDT supported version and then migrate the data to QBO, as also mentioned by @SIAB. Here are the steps:

  1. Download and install a trial version of QBDT Enterprise (supported version).
  2. After installation, open the software.
  3. Go to File.
  4. Click the Open and Restore Company.
  5. Choose the Restore a Backup Copy, then locate the .qbb file in your drive and restore you data.

Once the back up file is restored in QBDT, you can now export the data to QBO. Please follow the steps below:

  1. Log in to the restored company file as an administrator.
  2. Press Ctrl+1 to open the Product Information.
  3. Then, press Ctrl+ B + Q, then select OK.
  4. Follow the prompts to log in to QBO and upload your data.

After the migration is complete, review your QBO accounts to ensure all data was imported correctly.

Additionally, you may opt to use a third-party application that supports this process directly.
