Dates 2028 and later display incorrectly - QB Mac 2020

Hello,

I'm using QuickBooks Mac 2020, and I'm having a problem with the dates on future transactions.

I am using general journal entries to record depreciation, between depreciation expense and accumulated depreciation.  I make the entries at the end of each year, and often enter them in advance since they will be the same for a while.

Entries for 12/31/24, 12/31/25, 12/31/26, and 12/31/27 are ok, but 12/31/28 shows up as 12/31/00, 12/31/29 as 12/31/01, etc.  They appear to sort correctly, but they consistently display a year 28 years before the actual year.

I have verified the data, I have rebuilt the data, and I have seen the same problem across multiple company files.  Has anyone else seen this, and how can I fix it?

I’ve outlined additional solutions below to help you resolve this concern effectively, @tom_strong.

To address the date issue in QuickBooks Mac 2020, the first steps involve updating your software and using the Verify/Rebuild tool. These steps often resolve common problems, including date-related errors. Don’t worry—if the issue persists, we can update your QuickBooks Mac 2020 to the latest release.

Here's how:

  1. Select Check for QuickBooks Updates from the QuickBooks▼ dropdown.
  2. Choose Install Update if a newer version is available.
  3. Hit Install and Relaunch.
  4. QuickBooks for Mac automatically reopens after the update is complete.

Here is an article with other options for updating QuickBooks for Mac 2020 to the latest release: Update QuickBooks for Mac to the Latest Release.

Once done, you can reinstall QuickBooks for Mac using clean install.

I've also added these articles to help you manage and move your fixed asset data to your new device:

• Manage fixed assets using Fixed Asset Manager (FAM)

• Move fixed asset data to your new QuickBooks or another computer.

Is there any way to do it without doing a software update? I would prefer not to be locked out of several online banking features I've seen others report go away when updating to a newer version of QB Mac 2020.

I would expect that handling dates correctly should be something that software like this should handle from the beginning, and if there were a problem I'd expect it to be around 2038, not 2027.  If it can't keep the dates right, what confidence do I have that it's keeping the financials right?

BTW, any suggestion of "upgrading" to a new subscription-based, or worse yet, online, version of QB will be understood to mean "we have given up on supporting people like you, and it's time to switch to a competitor's product"

@tom_strong

Install the trial version of QB Desktop 2021 and open your file on it. Did you encounter the same problem?
