Question

How can I remove a vehicle from my account if it is no longer being used for business purposes?

I’ve looked around and cannot find a way to remove a vehicle from my self employed QB account. I added a personal vehicle to my account a couple years ago but have never used it for business purposes and never claimed any mileage deductions. Every year when I’m completing taxes there is a vehicle page where I have to mark 0 for everything, and I’d rather just remove the vehicle from the QB account entirely. Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

Hi there, Katie.

Currently, QuickBooks Self-Employed doesn't allow users to remove vehicles from an account, but you can mark it as inactive.

Before we proceed, please know that you can't deactivate your primary vehicle. Also, any existing trips linked to the vehicle will remain even after deactivation. To do so, follow the steps below:

  1. Open your QuickBooks account.
  2. Go to the Gear icon, then select Vehicle info.
  3. Once done, select the vehicles you want to remove.
  4. On the Edit vehicle page, click the Vehicle no longer in use button.

To ensure you won't have to mark those vehicles zero whenever preparing taxes, I suggest contacting TurboTax support for assistance in deleting the vehicles from your account so they won’t appear in your records.
