I have had nothing but problems since I had quickbooks and I can't do this every year. This has costed me money, time, and my sanity. There's tons of transactions that are completely missing and it is almost worthless. I need to know how to get my data off of this database so I can close my account. Worst service ever.

Hi there, Triple3Notary. I completely understand how frustrating this situation must be, especially when dealing with missing transactions. This isn’t the experience we want you to have

Here’s how you can safely export your information from QuickBooks Online.

If you want to export your Reports, follow these steps:

  1. On the left side of your screen, click Reports.
  2. Select which report you want to export.
  3. Customize the date range so it includes all the information you need.
  4. Click the Export button beside the Print icon.
  5. Choose how you want your reports to be exported.

If you want to export your company data, here’s how:

  1. Click the Gear icon in the top-right corner of your screen.
  2. Under Tools, select Export Data.
  3. Customize the date range for the data you'd like to export.
  4. Click Export to Excel to download the file.

If you want to download attachments, follow these:

  1. Click the Gear icon, then choose Attachments under Lists.
  2. Select Batch Actions, and then click Export.

You can follow the steps provided in the article to cancel your subscription: Cancel your subscription

Once you’ve cancelled your subscription, you’ll still have read-only access to your data for one year. After that, your data will be permanently deleted from the system, so be sure to export and save everything you need before cancelling.

@Triple3Notary

You can convert your data to a QB Desktop file and use the trial version to access your historical data for good.

Hi Triple3Notary,

I just wanted to follow up to check if the resolution we provided helped resolve your issue.

Please let us know if everything is now working as expected or if you’re still experiencing any problems.

We’ll be glad to assist further if needed.

Before you close anything, export absolutely everything you might need later because once the subscription is gone, getting access back can become a headache. I’d start by exporting your main reports like Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet, General Ledger, payroll reports, and all customer and vendor lists to Excel or PDF. You can do most of it through the Export Data section in QuickBooks Online. If you have receipts or attachments, download those separately because QB is not great about preserving them outside the platform.

Also, before assuming the transactions are permanently gone, double check filters, bank feed connections, and the audit log. A lot of times transactions are disconnected or hidden rather than actually deleted. If you are using Desktop, make sure you save the QBW file and backup files locally before uninstalling anything.

Honestly, a lot of people hit the point you’re at and decide to move to another system. Usually the least painful way is to keep QuickBooks as a historical archive and start fresh in the new software from a clean date instead of trying to migrate every single thing. And if you are on Desktop and the missing data turns out to be actual file corruption, some people do try tools like Stellar Repair for QuickBooks before giving up on the file completely.
