Question

How do I know something is "reconciled" in QBO?

I have zero accounting experience and I've only used QuickBooks Online (QBO) for 10 minutes.   Sorry.  But, that's just where I am.   I run a small business and this is the first time using QBO for that purpose.

Hopefully, this is an easy question.   I know that when a transaction is "reconciled" then that transaction matches the corresponding bank transaction. That's my understanding at this time.

My question is this:

How do I "see" that a given transaction is or is not reconciled?

Thanks for choosing QuickBooks Online as your accounting software, Peter.

When your bank transactions are imported from a linked bank account, QuickBooks Online automatically assigns matches to the transactions. However, they are not yet reconciled.

Reconciling means comparing your bank and credit card statements with QuickBooks to ensure accuracy. It's good to do this monthly to see if there are discrepancies or duplicates.

To view the reconciliation status, you can go to your Chart of Accounts and view the register.

Here's how:

  1. Locate the account and click the View register.
  2. If you can't see the column, click the small Gear icon inside the register to add the Reconcile Status by ticking the check box.
  3. Here's what you'll see:
  • R (Reconciled): The transaction has been reconciled successfully.
  • C (Cleared): The transaction has been matched to the bank feed but not yet reconciled.
  • Blank: The transaction hasn't been matched or reconciled.

Here is an article you can read to learn more about reconciliation: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.
