how do i pay taxes ahead? I have a large tax bill coming up and I want to pay some of it down now.

Just to clarify, are you referring to sales tax or payroll tax?
 

If you're referring to sales tax, there's no option to record payment in advance. In this case, you can reach out to the tax agency to directly pay the tax.
 

However, if you're referring to payroll tax, you can make advance payments through EFTPS (Electronic Federal Tax Payment System). After that, you can create a historical tax payment in QBO to record the advance tax payment. Refer to this article for more details: Record tax payment made outside online payroll.
 

For state taxes, I recommend reaching out to the state agency to confirm if you can pay in advance.
