On the ads and promotional messages
There's currently no setting in QuickBooks Online that turns off in-product ads and promotional messages entirely, on any plan. The only control you have per message is to close it with the X or select No, thanks, which keeps that specific one from showing again. If you'd like this to change, the way to make it count is to send feedback directly to the product team: select the Gear icon, then Feedback, describe wanting an ads opt-out, and select Next. Intuit's product team reviews feedback submitted this way when planning future updates.
A couple of things that can help in the meantime:
- A browser pop-up blocker can suppress some pop-up-style promotions, though it won't touch banners built into the page itself.
- If a specific promotion keeps reappearing even after you've dismissed it, that's usually a new/different message rather than the same one resurfacing, since dismissing one doesn't currently suppress the whole category.
On the repeated bank re-verification (a separate issue)
If your bank, such as Navy Federal Credit Union, asks you to answer a security question or enter a one-time code every time the connection updates, that's bank error 185. It means your financial institution has its own extra security requirement on top of your login, not something QuickBooks Online controls.
- If you're asked a security question, enter the answer when prompted. QuickBooks Online saves your answers and will supply them automatically on future updates, though you may still see the prompt again if your bank rotates through multiple questions.
- If you're asked for a one-time passcode instead, retrieve it from your bank (by text, call, or their app) and enter it each time the prompt appears; one-time codes generally can't be saved and re-used the way security answers can.
- If the prompt doesn't appear when expected, disable your browser's pop-up blocker or try a different browser, then reconnect.
If it keeps happening every single time despite this, that's between your bank's security policy and how often it requires re-verification for third-party connections, so your bank's support team can confirm whether that frequency is adjustable on their end.

If there's a specific ad or upsell that's especially disruptive for how you work, it's worth naming in your feedback submission, since specific examples tend to carry more weight than a general request.
