Question

How do I update the rate for Projects or Services so that it auto populates correctly on the Invoices tool with my new rate in the new year?

My hourly rate changed for 2026. I can't find out how to change the rate that auto populates in pre-populated Projects or Services within the Invoices tool

Thanks for joining us here, Arianne.

Currently, QuickBooks Self-Employed doesn't feature a central dashboard to update saved rates for products or services.

To ensure your new 2026 rate auto-populates in future invoices, the most efficient workaround is to create a new service item with a unique name (e.g., 'Consulting 2026').

If you'd rather keep your original service name, you’ll need to adjust the rate on each invoice manually; eventually, the system will begin to use the new rate based on your recent activity.

Please note that changing a rate on a new invoice or creating a new service item will not affect any of your historical 2025 invoices. They will remain exactly as they were sent.
