How is it that you can import payroll information from 3rd party vendor but you cannot from QuickBooks desktop?

Moving your QuickBooks Desktop Payroll information to QuickBooks Online Payroll can be done efficiently and directly within QuickBooks itself. As a QuickBooks user, I understand how important it is to have all your data seamlessly transferred for a smooth transition. Let me outline the steps to help you continue managing your payroll effortlessly.

Before anything else, you'll need to have QuickBooks Online Payroll Core, Premium, or Elite subscriptions.

Then go to your QBDT and sign in as an admin to the Desktop company file you need to import. If you're using QBDT Pro or Premier, you can follow these steps:

1. Go to Company, then select Export Company File to QuickBooks Online.
2. Click the Get Started to export your data.
3. Hit the export all your company data, then Continue.\

However, if you're using QBDT Enterprise, you can follow these steps:

1. Click F2 or Ctrl + 1 on your keyboard to open the Product Information window.
2. Once opened, press and hold CTRL + B + Q on your keyboard, then release.
3. Click OK. The import workflow will then open.

Once done, sign in as an admin to your QuickBooks Online Payroll account. Select the QuickBooks Online company you want to move your payroll info to. However, if you have multiple companies, select the one you want from the list. Then click Continue and Export. Once the export completes, sign in to your QuickBooks Online Payroll.
