i've got a single cash receipt and can't remember how to apply it to 2 client receivables

To record a single cash receipt, ensure you select the bill-to-parent option from the sub-client's profile to process the payment via the parent client, Jack.

Here's how to do it:

1. Hover over the Sales menu and then select Customers.
2. Find the subclients in question by utilizing the Search box.
3. Click Edit.
4. From the Name and Contact section, tick the Bill parent customer box.
5. Hit Save.
   
   

    

Once done, record the cash receipt using the Receive Payment transaction. Doing this clears the two sub-client invoice balances by following the steps below:

1. Go to + New and then choose Receive payment.
2. Select the primary client's name from the Customer field.
3. Tick the invoice boxes.
4. On the Payment method field, choose Cash.
5. Choose Payments to deposit (Undeposited Funds (UF)) from the Deposit To field.
6. Hit Save and close.
   
   

    

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), we use UF to hold the funds. Once those funds are deposited into your bank account, you must create a bank deposit to reflect the bank's actual case. For detailed instructions, please refer to this article: Record and make bank deposits in QuickBooks Online.

Please note that this solution is applicable only if the sub-clients are under the same parent client. If they have different parent clients, you have two options: either process separate payments for each invoice or adjust the sub-client profiles to unite them under one parent, thus allowing a single payment for two invoices.

You did not mention whether the two invoices are billed to the same sub-client. If they are, you can simply record the payment received without selecting the Bill Parent Customer option in the sub-client's profile.
