moving QB Pro 2015 to a new PC

I will soon be getting a new PC. I am wondering if I can MOVE my program (QB Pro 2015 desktop) to the new computer? If so, where can I find how-to instructions?

I do have backup copies of my company file so that's not a problem. Just wondering about the program itself.

Thank you.

Hey there, dobeluvr. Welcome to the Community!

Yes, QuickBooks Desktop can be moved to a new computer. I'll help you obtain the proper steps for the transfer right here in this thread.

Since you're using our 2015 release, your application will have to be manually transferred. Here's how:
1. You'll need your product and license details available. If you don't have them, press F2 while in your books. This will display a Product Information window which can be used to obtain the necessary information.2. Uninstall QBDT from the device it's currently installed on before attempting to reinstall it on the new computer.
3. On the new PC where you want it moved to, download the installation files by inserting your CD. If you no longer have a copy of the compact disc, installation files can be obtained from the Downloads & Updates page of our website.4. Install the program.
5. After installation is completed, go to Help in the menu bar at the top, then select Register QuickBooks.
6. Enter the requested information to register your product on the new computer.

Once you've finished the transfer process, your company file(s) can be copied to their new location.

QB 2015 is an outdated version. I would recommend running it on Win 7 instead to lower the problem.  If you are running Win 10 on your new machine, install and run your QB 2015 on Compatibility mode Win 7.

Find the the installer and other resources in the following link

Good Luck !

One problem, QB 2015 is no longer available for download and I don't have the file to re-install it on my new computer. The earliest that is available now is 2018, and of course, the key doesn't work.... What can I do short of buying a new version?

Hello there, @amp9.

I'll make sure you can move QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to your new computer. Let's first visit the Customer Account Management Portal (CAMPs) to ensure your email address is updated so you can download and install QBDT smoothly.

CAMPs is the page where you can manage your accounts, products, contacts, billing, and user ID access. It also provides a convenient way to download your products and find your license number.

Here's how to sign in to CAMPs:

  1. Go to CAMPs.
  2. Sign in with your Intuit Account info. This could be different from what you use to sign in to your company file.
  3. If you see multiple products to choose from, select QuickBooks Desktop to go to CAMPs.

Once you're signed in, go to Sign in & security and select User IDEmail addressPassword, or Phone section to review or update your email.

Immediately after that, download and install QBDT on your new computer.

If you have other installation concerns or questions about managing your company files in QBDT, please don't hesitate to let me know in the comments below. I'll gladly help. Take care, and I wish you continued success, @amp9.

Thank you for staying engaged with this thread, Iconnine11.

I’d be happy to assist you with installing QuickBooks Desktop on your new computer.

Here’s a simple guide to help you reinstall or transfer your QuickBooks Desktop installation:

  1. Please ensure you have your product license information readily available.
  2. Uninstall the existing QuickBooks application from your current computer before beginning the reinstallation process.
  3. On the new computer, either download the installation files or insert the installation CD.
  4. Install QuickBooks Desktop by following the standard setup instructions.
