QuickBooks Online Export File Type

Hello,

I have a client who uses the app for QuickBooks Online. When they go to 'Company - Export' menu, then click on 'Export to Excel', it opens a save as dialog box but does not provide a file extension for the file. When the file is saved, it saves the file with no file extension, so Windows does not know how to open it. If they add .zip to the file name, it opens with no issues.

I am wondering how to get the app to add the .zip file extension automatically without having to add it manually.

Let's work through some troubleshooting steps to ensure the program exports data lists in the correct .zip file format, Matthew.

Based on the steps you've described, it appears you’re utilizing QuickBooks in a web browser. When you export data using the Gear icon, the account lists are downloaded as an Excel file contained in a zip format.

To rule out browser-specific issues, try using a different web browser to export these files. After switching browsers, you can download the lists again. This process can help ensure that the files are downloaded with the correct extensions and without corrupted metadata.
