Weird Automated Rule Incorrectly Marks Groceries as a Credit Card Interest Payment. How do I fix this?

The title explains this well.  I've got a Safeway purchase incorrectly marked as interest paid in QuickBooks Online.

I have some questions:

  1. Who made this Rule?  Did I do it and unaware?  Did QuickBooks Online create the rule automatically?
  2. How do I 'turn off' this rule?  How do I navigate to these rules?
  3. Should I make a new rule or just post the Safeway purchases manually?   My only aversion to using rules would be mistakes going unnoticed until it is too late.

Below is what I see in the Transaction Bank area - my credit card activity.

Hello there, Peter.

I understand how a miscategorized Safeway purchase, such as being labeled as "Credit Card Interest Paid," can be confusing. Let’s tackle each part of your concern step by step so you can resolve everything smoothly.

To correct the automated rule that has been applied incorrectly, please follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Rules tab under the Accounting.
  2. Locate the rule hose applied as "Credit Card Interest Payment.
  3. From the Actions dropdown, choose:
  • Delete: To completely remove the rule so it no longer affects transactions.
  • Disable: To stop the rule temporarily without deleting it.

Once deleted or disabled, QuickBooks will stop applying this rule to future transactions

QuickBooks learns from how you categorize transactions in the past. If Safeway purchases were marked as "Credit Card Interest Payment" before, QuickBooks has applied this as a suggested or automated rule.

To turn off this rule, here's how you can do it:

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Select Account and Settings.
  3. Go to the Sales tab and click the pencil icon to edit.
  4. Toggle the switch off.
  5. Save the changes, then click Done.

If Safeway purchases happen frequently, you can create a rule and disable Auto-add to review transactions manually before they’re added to your books. However, if these transactions are infrequent, manually categorizing each one ensures full control and prevents mistakes.
