When reviewing transactions, how do I get to choose a category rather than it flashing an automatic response?

Hello there, Arttherapyinct. There may be a transaction rule set up that is causing your transactions to be auto-categorized.

To address this, you can delete the rule that is causing the automatic categorization. Simply go to the Gear icon, then click on Create Rules under the Tools section. On the Transaction Rule page, use the drop-down menu in the Action column to delete it.

You have two option in selecting a category for your transactions. You can either search it or click on the Show All Categories option on the transactions page.

Here's how:

  1. Navigate to the Transactions tab.
  2. Find the transaction that was automatically categorized.
  3. In the Category column, click on the applied category.
  4. You can then either use the Search tab to find the right category or click "Show All Categories" to browse your options.

For more information on categorizing transactions, you can check out this helpful article: Categorize transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

If you have further concerns, please feel free to ask. We're here to help.
