Why is the QuickBooks Online app on iPhone so slow or buggy, and how do I fix it?

Hard to run a business when the app rarely works.

The quickest reliable fix for the buggy behavior, like a blank company, empty lists, freezing, or needing to reinstall, is to refresh the app's data so it re-syncs everything from the server, along with keeping both the app and your iPhone's iOS up to date. Reinstalling does work, but you shouldn't have to keep doing it, and refreshing the data usually clears the same problems without the full reinstall. And if you're stuck right now, the browser version has all the same data while you sort the app out.

1. Refresh the app's data first

  1. In the app, tap Menu, then Settings.
  2. Tap Refresh Data, then tap Yes to confirm. This re-pulls your latest data from QuickBooks and clears the stale local copy that causes the blank company and empty product or client lists.

2. Keep the app and iOS current

  1. In the App Store, update the QuickBooks Online app to the latest version.
  2. On your iPhone, go to Settings, then General, then Software Update, and install any available update. Running a current, supported version of iOS matters here; you can check the current minimum in Intuit's system requirements.

3. Offload the app instead of deleting it

  1. Go to Settings, then General, then iPhone Storage, then the QuickBooks Online app.
  2. Tap Offload App to clear its footprint while keeping your data, then reinstall it from the App Store. It's a lighter version of the uninstall and reinstall you've been repeating.

4. Steady the sign-in and app-switching issues

  1. Make sure you're on a stable connection, and try switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
  2. Set up an app PIN, Face ID, or Touch ID for sign-in, so you're not re-entering credentials every launch. If lists show up empty, the search box will still find the customer or item while the data finishes syncing.

5. Keep working in the meantime

  1. Open Safari and sign in at the QuickBooks Online website. The browser stays in sync with the app and has the same data, so you're not blocked while troubleshooting.

If it still misbehaves after all of this, contact support so they can look at your account, and when you reach out from the app it can attach an app log that helps them pin down the cause. Have your iPhone model, iOS version, and app version handy, and it's worth sending the specifics through Settings, then Feedback, so the app team sees them.

I understand how QuickBooks mobile app issues can disrupt your workflow, especially when managing your business on the go, gpmillerjax.

Outdated app versions, limited storage, cache buildup, weak internet, or server problems can slow the QuickBooks app. Let’s resolve these to keep it running smoothly for your business:

  1. Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data to test your connection.
  2. Close and reopen the QuickBooks app.
  3. Restart your device.
  4. Uninstall and reinstall the app.
  5. Check the App Store for updates and install the latest version.
  6. Update your device’s operating system to the latest version.

To free up space without losing your app’s documents or data:

  1. Open Settings and select General.
  2. Tap iPhone Storage, then choose the QuickBooks Online app.
  3. Tap Offload App to remove the app but retain its data.

While troubleshooting the app, you can access your account through the QuickBooks Online browser version to complete critical tasks in the meantime:

  1. Open Safari, Chrome, or another browser on your iPhone.
  2. Go to QuickBooks Online website and sign in with your credentials.

Uninstalling and reinstalling the app fixed it but why do I have to keep doing this?

it seems like this app is really struggling most of the time, yet all of my other apps work fine.

Ive also found the phone app to be extremely buggy lately.

-asking me to sign in repeatedly on startup (3-4 times in a row in a loop just to get the app started)

-signing me in to a “blank” company with no data

-logging me out if i switch between apps

-products/services menu is empty sometimes and i have to use the search function

-client list empty sometimes and i have to use the search function

-app freezing and/or crashing randomly

-app is incredibly slow at times

-app seemingly gets stuck when saving (icon keeps spinning) forcing me to close the app and reopen it

it’s pretty bad!

Hi Samsoodin,

Thank you for sharing your concern with the QuickBooks Community! I understand how challenging it can be when the app isn’t functioning as expected, and I want to do everything I can to help you resolve this issue with the QuickBooks Online mobile app.

First, make sure your QuickBooks Online mobile app is updated to the latest version. Updates often fix bugs, improve functionality, and ensure compatibility with your device. Remember, the app requires iOS 16.0 or later to function properly.

If the app is updated and all troubleshooting steps you’ve tried (such as refreshing the app's data, or uninstalling and reinstalling the app) haven’t resolved the issue, I recommend contacting our Live Support team. They can take a deeper look into the problem and possibly provide a resolution tailored to your situation.

Here's how you can contact support:

  1. Sign into your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. Click the three dots (⋮) stacked vertically to show the list.
  3. Select Help (?).
  4. Use the Search tab to type in your concern.
  5. Tick the Contact Us.
  6. Follow the instructions to continue.
  7. You can also access our support directly through this link. What can we help you with?.

Please ensure to check their support hours to contact them in the right time.

In the meantime, you can access your account using your through a web browser on your device. Using a web browser allows you to manage your account and complete QuickBooks tasks seamlessly, without relying on the mobile app.

We’re committed to ensuring you have everything you need to keep your business running smoothly, and I appreciate your patience as we work through this. If you have further questions or concerns, feel free to respond here. We are happy to assist!
