How do I set up to receive payments online? I have restarted QuickBooks multiple times as it tells me I already have an account set up to receive payments.

To be able to process payments online, you need to have a merchant account and link it to your QuickBooks Desktop. Since QuickBooks tells you that you already have an account set up to receive payments, it means that you already have an existing payment account. Just link it to your company file.

You have two ways to do it. By linking through the Customers menu or by linking your account through the Receive Payments tab.

To link through the Customers menu:

1. Go to the Customers menu and select Link Payment Service to Company File. If you see a message about credit card protection, fill out the required fields and select OK.
2. Enter your User ID and Password and select Sign In.
   • If you're new to payments, select Connect.
   • If you're transferring your account, select Transfer and then Yes, transfer.

To link your account through Receive Payments:

1. Select Receive Payments from the Customers menu.
2. Tap on Credit/Debit for the payment method.
3. Choose Link to an existing QuickBooks Payments account and select OK.
4. Enter the User ID and Password and select Sign In.
   • If you're new to payments, select Connect.
   • If you're transferring your account, select Transfer and then Yes, transfer.

Once the account is successfully connected, you'll see an icon in the upper-right corner that says you're signed in.

You'll now be able to send an invoice to your customer and allow them to pay online.
