Why is my QuickBooks Online Bill Pay ACH payment taking so long to process?

With the switch from integrated Bill.com bill payments to QB's own payment system, the processing time when paying bills has gotten much longer. What use to take a day or so is taking quite literally a week now.

Why?

Why ACH payments may take longer

QuickBooks Bill Pay's standard ACH delivery time is 3-5 business days, and that window doesn't include weekends or federal holidays, so a payment scheduled right before one can easily stretch toward a week. Paper checks take even longer, typically 8-10 business days. On top of the standard timeline, delivery can also vary due to third-party delays or risk reviews, which are outside QuickBooks' direct control.

How to get a payment there faster

If you're eligible, Faster ACH Payments deliver in 1 business day for an additional fee, up to a $25,000 limit per payment:

  • Schedule the payment by 5 PM PT on a business day to have it delivered the next business day.
  • This 1-business-day window also excludes weekends and federal holidays.
  • Processing fees are based on the date you choose to withdraw the money.

If a specific payment is taking longer than expected

If a payment has gone past the standard 3-5 business day window and there's no holiday or weekend explaining the gap, that's worth flagging directly. Contact the QuickBooks support team so they can check the specific payment and look into any delay or risk review that may be holding it up.

Let us know how many business days it's actually been since you scheduled the payment, and whether you're on standard or Faster ACH, so we can help narrow down what's going on.

I should add, I'm talking about ACH payments, not mailed paper checks.

Hello there, bobransom.

The processing time when making bill payments indeed matters to ensure you've paid your bills on time. With this, I'll add information regarding the delivery time for ACH payments in QuickBooks.

When utilizing QuickBooks Bill Pay, the standard delivery time for ACH payments is 3-5 business days. You can also schedule bill payments to be paid in 1 business day if you're eligible for Faster ACH Payments, which is subject to an additional $10 processing fee for each payment. Although, it doesn't include weekends and federal holidays.

On the other hand, please note that delivery time will still vary since it will also be affected by third-party delays or risk reviews.

For more information about this feature, you can refer to this article: Learn about QuickBooks Bill Pay.

However, I will recommend contacting our customer support team if payments take longer than the expected timeframe. They can thoroughly check this matter and provide the most appropriate resolution.

Moreover, you might want to scan this resource to review all amounts paid to a vendor for the year and have a better picture of your business expenses: Run a report with vendor totals.
