Question

In timesheets, where is the work type allocated and can it be changed?. Each time our employee submits a timesheet his hours are allocated to "leave taken".

The employees hours are allocated to work type "paid family and domestic violence leave taken" each time they submit a timesheet.

When an employee submits a timesheet without selecting a work type, QuickBooks Online automatically assigns the hours to their assigned Primary Pay Category. If these hours are defaulting to Paid family and domestic violence leave takenthat leave category is likely set as the default on the employee's profile.

To fix this and ensure hours are allocated correctly, you can update the employee's default pay settings by following these steps:

  1. Go to All apps and click Payroll from the left navigation menu.
  2. Select the Employees tab.
  3. Click on the employee's name to open their profile.
  4. Hit Pay Run Defaults from the menu within their profile.
  5. Look at the Primary Pay Category dropdown. If it shows the leave category, change it to their standard pay type (like Ordinary Hours).
  6. Tap Save.

You can also control which specific work types the employee can choose from when filling out their timesheet. While still in their employee profile, select Work Types from the menu and check the boxes next to the options you want them to see.
