Question

Where do I set permissions so an employee can use the Manual Time Import Add-on? I've added it for them, and they can see it, but get a permissions error when it's run.

I have an employee who has been using Manual Time Import for over a year. We switched QuickBooks Time accounts when we switch from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online, and now the Manual Time Import fails with an error, "User is not allowed to track time."

Hi there, David. To fix the error and enable the Manual Time Import add-on, you must update the team member’s role to Manager or Admin and enable specific permissions within QuickBooks Time.

Under the Permissions tab in My Team menu, ensure both Manage my timesheets and Manage timesheets for all team members are checked, as these are required for the import tool to function.

Since you switched from Desktop to Online, the user is possibly mapped incorrectly. This error often implies they are set up as a Worker without permission to import time for others. You must check your sync settings by going to Feature Add-ons > Manage Add-ons > QuickBooks Online > Preferences. Ensure the user is properly mapped and selected for syncing, as an unmapped profile cannot push data through the Manual Time Import tool.

You should also verify your company-wide settings by going to Company Settings > My Team > Permissions. Ensure that Allow Team Members to Manage Their Settings is enabled, along with the necessary options. These global settings ensure that the employee's profile is fully active and capable of syncing individual preferences required by the import add-on.

I'll keep an eye on this thread if you have additional questions or need further assistance. Please don't hesitate to reply below.
