My Balance Sheet shows my accounts alphabetically and not grouped per category or type. How can I fix this

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), the Balance Sheet report sorts accounts according to the sequence established in your Chart of accounts. This can be based on account numbers or arranged in alphabetical order. To fix an incorrect order, you'll want to enable account numbers, assign numerical codes, or modify the account names.

Here's how:

1. Go to the Gear icon, then Account and settings.
2. Open the Advanced tab and scroll to the Chart of accounts section.
3. Click Edit and Enable account numbers. Optionally, tick Show account numbers.
4. Once done, hit Save.

If the report is showing in a single alphabetical list rather than being grouped into the Assets, Liabilities, and Equity sections, let's open an incognito window to access the product with a clean slate.     

If the sections are organized correctly but the accounts within each category are not arranged by liquidity, I recommend contacting our Live Support team so that they can review this behavior and ensure your Balance Sheet accounts are in order.     

In the meantime, you'll want to export the report to Excel and manually reorganize it there.
