Question

How do I permanently turn off auto mileage tracking? I’ve turned it off about five or six times it keeps turning on on its own.

I end up spending a lot of time deleting a bunch of automatic mileage tracking because I’m out of province or even in a different country. How do I turn this off and make sure it stays off?

Thank you for reaching out to the QuickBooks Community, intuit_c8f7e47242ea! I'm happy to help you get this sorted out.

The reason auto-tracking keeps turning back on is that the in-app toggle alone isn't always enough to keep it off permanently. You'll also want to revoke the location permission at the device level. Here's how to do both:

Step 1: Turn off auto-tracking in the app

  1. Open the QuickBooks mobile app.
  2. Tap Menu ☰, then Settings ⚙, then Mileage.
  3. Turn off the Auto-track your miles switch.

Step 2: Lock it down at the device level

On iPhone (iOS):

  1. Go to your phone's Settings app.
  2. Scroll down and tap QuickBooks.
  3. Tap Location and change it to Never or While Using the App.

On Android:

  1. Go to Device Settings > Apps > QuickBooks > Permissions.
  2. Set Location to Only while using or Deny.
  3. While you're there, also turn off Physical Activity.  That's another sensor the mileage tracker uses.

Doing both steps together is what makes the change stick, even after app updates. Feel free to reply on this thread if it turns back on after trying these steps.  We're always here to help!
