Welcome to the QuickBooks Community! Class tracking is a useful feature for organizing your transactions in QuickBooks Online, so I'm glad to see that you're exploring this option for your books. I'd be happy to go over how this feature works so that you have the information you need to get the most out of it.
When you configure and then create classes in QuickBooks Online, it's possible to apply the classes you create to transactions, either for the transaction as a whole or one class for each line. Doing this, you can use it in your reporting to see how your business is doing based on these parameters. Here are some articles that go over this in more detail.
At this time, assigning a class to an account is not possible, but I can definitely see how it would be useful! What I recommend is letting our product development team know your idea by using the steps in the How do I submit feedback? article to share your thoughts. The team receives and reviews the feedback to consider when making updates to the program. To see new updates, check out our QuickBooks Online Feature and Product Updates page.
In the meantime, feel free to review the current options for class tracking to see if that'll work out the way you're hoping, even without being able to assign a class to an account.
I'll be here if you have further questions. :)
