TROUBLE RECONCILING

Can someone help?  I am not a new user to Quickbooks but have never really had formal training.  I am having difficulty reconciling.  When I launch RECONCILE, Quickbooks tells me that my starting balance is off and prompts me to “FIX”.  When I do, it list a number of transactions but I do not know what to do from here.

A beginning balance discrepancy in QuickBooks is generally caused by a previously reconciled transaction that was edited, deleted, or unreconciled, and can be fixed by opening the Reconciliation Discrepancy Report by clicking the We can help you fix it alert and correcting the flagged transactions until the difference reaches CAD $0.00.

Here's how:

  1. On the Reconcile page, select the We can help you fix it from the alert. This opens the Reconciliation Discrepancy Report.
  2. For each transaction listed, select View to see its change history, then check the Change Type column to understand what happened.
  3. Apply the correct fix based on what the Change Type column shows:
  • If the amount or account was changed, select the transaction, click Edit, correct the details to match your original bank statement, then click Save and close.
  • If it was unreconciled in the register, reconcile it through the normal reconciliation flow, or manually mark it with an R in the checkmark column via Account history
  • If it was reconciled in error, select the transaction and clear the checkmark column (blank or C) to remove it from the reconciliation, then Save.
  • If it was deleted, recreate the transaction exactly as shown on the report, then manually mark it R and Save.
    4. Once all corrections are made, confirm the difference on the report shows CAD $0.00, then select Resume reconciling to continue.
