Question

How can we made financials for a company for a date mid year - date of sale of the running concern. We have passed close accruals/deferrals - which reverse the next day.

Sale of a company to new owners happened on 11 Sep 2026. Financial year has not ended. Accruals and Deferrals adjustments made. "Close the books" on 11/09/2026" on the settings done. While financial year is still continuing. How can we get the work papers and financial statements for 11 /09/2026 generated ?

You can generate financial statements and work papers as of the sale date 11/09/2026, even though the financial year has not ended. You do not need to close the financial year to prepare these reports.

To generate the sale-date financials:

  1. Go to the Reports section in the left sidebar, and then select Standard Reports.
  2. Type "balance sheet" in the Search bar and open the report.
  3. Set the As of date to 11/09/2026 and run the report.
  4. Open the Profit and Loss report and set the date range from the start of the financial year up to 11/09/2026.
  5. For your closing work papers, also generate the Trial Balance and General Ledger reports using the same cut-off date.

For more information on running various reports in QuickBooks, refer to this article: Run a report.

Please ensure that the accruals and deferrals are recorded on or before 12/09/2026. Since the reversing entries are dated 12/09/2026 or later, they will not affect the financial statements prepared as of the sale date.

The Close the books setting only prevents changes to transactions dated before the closing date; it does not generate the financial statements or prevent you from running reports for the sale date.
