Question

Can I export the chart of accounts to an excel file? I want to use the format to create a chart of a count for another company I am managing.

While you're in the Chart of Accounts, click on Run Report (upper right).

Then again in the upper right click on Export icon (next to the gear) and choose Excel.

For Desktop Users I found this solution:

Note - You do not need to be in Admin to do this.  It only provides the Account Name, Type and Income Tax Line, NO Descriptions.

1) Open Chart of Accounts (Lists, Chart of Accounts)

2) File

3) Print List

4) if Popup click "Ok", if no popup proceed to step 5

5) On "Settings" tab under "Print To:" Select "File"

6) In bottom drop-down menu select "Comma Delimited File"

7) Click "Print"

8) Save to wherever you like and name whatever you like.

Hello

When you are in the Chart of Account screen, click on the down arrow of  the 'Reports' tab towards the bottom of the screen. Choose Account Listing.

A report of all your Accounts (CoA), Type, Balances and Descriptions will be displayed.

You can then print, email, send to excel etc...

I'll share some insights about exporting the General Ledger report to Excel in QuickBooks Online, @mewithacctg.

When exporting reports to Excel, it will give you the file in a protected view. That's why there is missing data. To view the full report, you just need to click the Enable Editing button in the upper part of the Excel file.

I'd also like to share this article for additional reference: Export Your Reports To Excel From QuickBooks Online.

Moreover, you can always customize your report to focus on the important details. After that, I suggest saving the current settings by clicking Save Customization. That way, you won’t have to go through the customization process again in case you need the same information in the future.
