Corrupted data file after upgrading to desktop pro 2021

I'm very upset with Intuit -  beware if you upgrade to Desktop Pro !!!!

My data file was corrupted when I upgraded QB desktop pro 2018 to 2021.  Technical support had me upload my data file to their data services resolution services to fix.  I was told it would take 2-3 business days to fix.  I have a business.  I can't be without QuickBooks for that long!!  Then I got an email saying it will take on average 5+ additional days to get assigned to an expert!!!

Pease tell me if you know of anything I can do to expedite this, or fix it myself.  I was told I could continue to work in my corrupted data file, but would need to input everything again once the file was fixed!!  Who has time for this?  Now I need to keep a log to figure out what I need to do when I get the file back??

I just upgraded to QB desktop pro 2021 because 2018 is being discontinued.  After I upgraded, my memorized reports weren't available.  I contacted support, who had me resort the memorized report list, but it didn't solve the problem.

Any advice or help is appreciated!

It isn't the kind of experience that we want you to come across, lico.

Let's try fixing the corrupted file by performing the verify and rebuild tools. Let me guide you how:

  1. Click the File menu.
  2. Under Utilities, select Rebuild Data.
  3. On the QuickBooks Information window, select OK.
  4. When finish, click OK.

If you see any error, you'll have to rebuild the program. We can do that by clicking the File menu and then select Utilities. Then, click Rebuild Data.

If the same thing happens, we can run the QuickBooks File Doctor tool. I've added this reference as your guide: Repair your company file using QuickBooks File Doctor.

I'll be around if there's anything that I can help. Keep safe!

@lico

How big is your file size?

As an additional option, consider having another evaluation from a 3rd party service provider.

I too am having the same problem.  I talked with a QB Technician and was told the corruption was up to 47.5% patch corruption and I need to have QB download my files, fix the files and then upload them back to me.  It could take up to 5 days.  This was before I told him I have over 30 companies we do the bookkeeping for.  We didn't have a problem before we installed QB 2021 Desktop.

@PropInc

If your QBD Pro/Premier file size is > 150-200 MB, your file will become more susceptible to data corruption and other funky issues. Utilize the Condense Data utility to compress the size or split the file on QBD 2019-2021.

You may want to have a 3rd party service provider take a look at that file. Some of them have an expedited service as well.

We are experiencing the same issue and QB customer service indicated it would be 2k to fix.  We have gotten in there but it keeps kicking us out.  Who do you recommend as the third party option?

This usually happens because the upgrade process exposes existing corruption in the old file, rather than 2021 actually damaging a clean file. When you move from 2018 to 2021, the file structure changes, and anything slightly off can break things like memorized reports. If you still have a backup from 2018, the best approach is to open that version again, run Verify and Rebuild there, and then upgrade using a copy of the file. That sometimes gives a cleaner conversion.

I wouldn’t recommend continuing to work heavily in the corrupted file since anything you enter may need to be redone later. If waiting on Intuit Data Services isn’t practical, some users try working on a copy and attempting a repair to recover lists and stabilize the data. using third party repair tools like Stellar Repair for QuickBooks are sometimes used in these upgrade-related corruption cases, especially when the file opens but data is inconsistent. It’s not guaranteed, but it can be worth trying while you’re waiting, alongside keeping a log of any new entries just in case.
