Hello there, David. I'm here to provide details about how invoice payments work in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE).
I recognize that the option to choose a specific date when marking the invoices as paid in QBSE is an essential feature for any business. However, it isn't possible for the program at this time. The payment date will be automatically determined based on when you mark it as paid.
While this option is unavailable, I recommend sending your feedback to our Product Development Team so they can review it and consider implementing it in the future. Please know that changes are also based on how popular a specific feature request is.
Here's how you can share your thoughts and ideas through your account:
Go to Assistant located in the upper right-hand corner.
Kevin, thanks. Interesting it looks like the option was available 3 years ago. As I found a link, which when attempted it did not give me the option the link said it would.
Unfortunately life/flood/deaths/got in the way first of the year and trying to get taxes done with an extension.
So any suggestions on how to mark payment from last year paid from last year?
I am aware of the advantages for businesses like yours to change the invoice payment date. I want QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) to have this feature as much as you do.
But QBSE still doesn't have this feature. However, I strongly urge you to share your thoughts with our software engineers. They carefully examine customer feedback, especially when determining how to improve QuickBooks.
Currently, the browser Assistant button is not working to send feedback. I recommend submitting feedback using the QuickBooks Self-Employed mobile app.
Here's how:
Select Assistant in the upper right corner.
Type in Feedback, then click Enter.
Follow the prompts to submit feedback.

I can't believe this is not an option in a bookkeeping software program for self-employed people. One cannot accurately record the date a payment is received—the only option is an uneditable "Today." That's completely unacceptable. Not every business owner can record transactions on a daily basis—nor would most want to. I am wrapping up my books from last year, and payments can only be recorded as occuring today, which basically makes Quickbooks useless for preparing my 2023 Schedule C.
