I'm going to discuss the process of recording a credit into a tip in QuickBooks Online (QBO), Jay.
First, you'll need to create an income account specifically for tracking tips. Ensure to selectOther Incomeas theAccount TypeandOther Miscellaneous Incomeas theDetail Type.
Once done, set up an item for the tips by following these steps:
Go to theGearicon and selectProducts and Services.
ClickNew, thenNon-inventory.
Enter aName.
Select the account you created for theIncome account.
ClickSave and Close.
Next, record the credit as a tip. To do that:
Go to theSalestab, thenInvoices.
SelectCreate invoice.
Enter the customer's details. In theProducts/Servicesfield, select the tip item you previously created.
ClickSave. If your credits are configured to apply automatically, you're done. Otherwise, selectReceive payment.
