how do I change the order of expenses on the profit and loss report

I've re-named my expenses to include a number as suggested to get the profit and loss statement to list the expenses in the order that I want. Re-ran the report and it still doesn't work. Is this a QB problem?

To properly reorder renamed expenses in the Profit and Loss report, you need to input the number first before the expense name, tom269. I'll outline the steps below to achieve this.

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account.
  2. Go to the Gear icon and then click Chart of Accounts.

  3. Find the expense account you want to rename, and please input the number before the expense name.

  4. Once done, click Save.

 

Once you've completed this, QuickBooks will automatically display the updated expense account numbers in the Profit and Loss report based on the changes you made in the Chart of Accounts. Please see the sample screenshot below:
