Creating an estimate

  1. Select + New, then select Estimate.
  2. Select + Add customer, then choose a customer from the dropdown. To add someone new, select + Add new, enter their info, and select Save and close.
  3. In the Product or service field, add the products or services for the estimate. To add a new one, select + Add new, enter the details, then select Save.
  4. If a rate is already saved for the item, it fills in the Amount column automatically. Adjust the quantity or amount as needed.
  5. New estimates default to Pending status. Change this from the status dropdown if needed.
  6. To control what your customer sees, select Estimate settings in the side panel and turn sections on or off. A preview updates as you go.
  7. Select Save, then Review and Send to email it. Update the message first if needed, then select Send estimate.

It really is a mystery! They seem to have taken what was already rather simple and hardly functional and made it much, much worse.

I'll share with you the guidelines on how to create an estimate with the new layout of QuickBooks Online.

With the new update, you can create estimates and customize them to display only what you want your customer to see. You can follow these steps:

  1. Go to + New, then select Estimate.
  2. Pick + Add customer. Then select a customer from the ▼ dropdown. Or, to add a new customer, choose +Add new, enter the customer info, and click Save and Close.
  3. Select the ▼ dropdown in the Product or service field and add the products or services to the estimate. Or, to add a new product or service, pick + Add new, enter the info for your product or service, and choose Save
  4. If you saved a rate for your product or service, it automatically displays in the Amount column. Add or adjust the quantity or amount as needed.
  5. The default status of a new estimate is Pending. If you need to edit the status, choose the Pending ▼ dropdown and choose a different status.
  6. To customize the estimate, pick Estimate settings in the side panel and select the ▼ dropdown by each section to expand the details. Then, choose what info displays on your form by turning the switches on or off in each section. As you make changes, a preview displays on the form.
  7. When you're ready, click Save.
  8. To email the estimate to your customer, choose Review and Send. Then edit the email message, if necessary, and select Send estimate.

Nope not the way it works but appreciate the marketing add, this tool is horrible now.

They’re doing it because they have our data and are forcing all users to only have access to QB tools, like pay invoice, run taxes, online book keeper, pro template designer, disgusting/worst layout UI Ive ever seen. Splice between netsuit/qbonline/intuit/turbo tax... I am going back to Excel, Word and a tangible accountant.
