@Harry4 As I would not touch QBO with a 20' pole, I can only speculate, but...
In QBDT, you can observe similar behaviour when you have your Employee or Vendor Center open and open the 'Write Check' function, in that it will automatically fill in the name field with the Employee or Vendor, respectively, that you had selected in either Center.
I would assume something along those lines is happening in QBO in its effort to be 'helpful'.
I recognize the trouble this may have caused you, Harry4. Let me give you an insight regarding pre-fill details in invoices.
Pre-fill form is an option to automatically fills other fields of the form, based on the last saved transaction of a customer. To avoid having it, ensure to turn off the "pre-fill forms with previously entered content" option under the automation section to prevent the form from automatically filling in the invoices.
If the issue persists, the auto-save feature in your browser is likely causing the prompt to fill in the details automatically on the invoice. If this is the case, we can perform some troubleshooting steps to determine if this is a browser-related issue issue.
To start, please use a private or incognito window to rule out cache problems in your browser. You can use the following keyboard shortcuts based on the type of browser you are using:

both responses do not answer the question. The second reply provides insight on auto fill which IS NOT the issue. When you svae/close an invoice QB automatically opens another invoice template for you to begin creating and it is ANNOYING as hell. How do we turn that off???

Since you have the same issue after trying the given procedures by my colleague above, I recommend you try to access other QuickBooks-supported browsers.

I appreciate you confirming that this isn’t a pre-fill issue. To help narrow things down, please share which of the troubleshooting steps mentioned in this thread you’ve already tried.
In the meantime, you can try using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Alt + D when saving your invoice. This can act as a temporary workaround by properly saving and closing the form without triggering a new invoice.
