Classic View for reports has been fully retired, not just scaled back. Every QuickBooks Online report, on every plan, now opens in Modern View, and the "Switch to classic view" option is gone everywhere, not just on some reports. Your saved reports, filters, and customizations all carried over automatically, so nothing needs to be rebuilt from scratch. Here's how to get the same information out of Modern View.
Add or remove columns on a report
Open the report and select Customize. In the Rows/Columns section, choose which columns show. Which specific fields are available depends on the report type and your QuickBooks plan.
If you're on QuickBooks Online Advanced or Intuit Enterprise Suite, you get extra column tools: select Customize, then Columns, then the More Columns tab, and check or uncheck any field you want to add or remove. Select Apply changes, then Save As to save the report under a new name.
See a vendor's full transaction history
To see every transaction tied to one vendor in one place, go to All apps, then Expenses & Bills, then Vendors. Find and select the vendor. Their full transaction history opens from there, rather than through the general contact search results.
Export to Excel
When you export a customized report to Excel, calculated rows and columns keep their formulas, so the export stays live and editable instead of landing as a flat snapshot.
What's actually different in Modern View
- Reports like General Ledger and Trial Balance now follow standard accounting order (Assets, Liabilities, Equity, Income, Expenses).
- Inactive and zero-balance accounts are hidden by default. You can bring them back through Filters.
- You can set your filters, columns, and groupings all at once and run the report a single time, instead of applying changes one at a time.
- Ctrl+F (Command+F on Mac) now searches within a longer report, and you can scroll the whole page instead of a small box.
- If you drill into a transaction and edit it, the report refreshes automatically when you go back.
If something you relied on in Classic View still isn't showing up the way you need it, use the Gear icon, then Feedback, to describe exactly what's missing. That's the channel the product team actually tracks.
